WHAT IS TRICARE?

TRICARE (formerly known as Civilian Health and Medical Program of the Uniformed Services) is a health care program that provides civilian health benefits for uniformed service personnel, military retirees, and their families. It operates under the Defense Health Agency under the supervision of the Assistant Secretary of Defense. Most health plans under TRICARE comply with the minimum requirements of the Affordable Care Act.

The mission of TRICARE is to improve the Department of Defense by ensuring that all military personnel and their families receive necessary health care support.

BCOTB TRICARE

TRICARE ELIGIBILITY

You are eligible for TRICARE if you are:

  • A uniformed service personnel
  • A relative of a uniformed service personnel
  • A survivor or a former spouse of uniformed service personnel
  • A recipient of Medal of Honor
  • A relative of a Medal of Honor recipient
  • Registered in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS)

TRICARE’S comprehensive coverage includes:

  • Outpatient visits
  • Immunizations
  • Preventive services
  • Hospitalization
  • Maternity care
  • Mental and behavioral health services (e.g Applied Behavior Analysis)

TRICARE may also cover specific health care requirements such as cancer treatment, chiropractic care, smoking cessation, and weight loss.

ABA Therapy Tricare

TRICARE HEALTH PLANS

TRICARE offers a number of health plans, and each plan has different coverage.

TRICARE Prime

  • It has most affordable and yet most comprehensive coverage.
  • Specialty care requires referral from accredited providers.
  • Providers file the health care claims and coordinate for referrals.
  • Transfer process is easy.
  • Available in determined Prime Service Areas in the United States.

TRICARE Prime Remote

  • It is health care option for designated elected remote locations in the U.S.
  • The requirements are basically the same with TRICARE Prime.
  • Active duty service personnel and their families are the only ones eligible for this option.

TRICARE Prime Overseas

  • It is available in overseas areas that are close to military treatment facilities.
  • The requirements are basically the same with TRICARE Prime.
  • It is exclusive for active military personnel and command-sponsored relatives.

TRICARE Prime Remote Overseas

  • It is for eligible members in determined remote overseas locations.
  • Care is usually provided by a designated primary care manager.
  • In most cases, the claims don’t need to filed.
  • It is exclusive for active military personnel and command-sponsored relatives.

TRICARE Select

  • It is, by far, the most flexible health care plan under TRICARE.
  • Members can acquire from any TRICARE-authorized health care provider.
  • Appointments can be scheduled at the member’s convenience.
  • Although it doesn’t require referrals, some services can only be acquired with authorization.
  • Members cover a percentage of the total expenses (cost share)
  • In some cases, members have to file their own claims.
  • It is not for active duty service personnel.

US Family Health Plan

  • It can be an add on to the TRICARE Prime.
  • The coverage is the same with TRICARE Prime but local services are enhanced.
  • There are not-for-profit health care systems in 6 U.S locations.
  • It is available for non-active military personnel, including those 65 years old and above.

TRICARE for Life

  • It is a supplement to Medicare for members with Medicare Part A and Part B.
  • It covers any Medicare provider.
  • Members pay a portion to a Medicare provider and the balance is forwarded to TRICARE.
  • In most cases, the entire cost is covered.
  • It is available around the globe.

TTRICARE Select Overseas

  • Available in certain nations.
  • There are no referrals and appointments can be scheduled according to your convenience.
  • Some services require authorizations.
  • Members may have to file their own claims.
  • Members cover a portion of the total cost.
  • Enrollment is not required. However, it is not available for active service personnel.

TRICARE Reserve Select

  • It is a premium-based health care plan that can be purchased by member so the National Guard and Reserve personnel.
  • Available in individual and family plans.
  • Appointments can be made at your own expediency.
  • It doesn’t require referrals but some services can only be covered with authorization.
  • Members share the cost with TRICARE.
  • Claims may have to be filed by members.

TRICARE Retired Reserve

  • The coverage are the same with TRICARE Reserve Select but only for retired National Guard and Reserve members.

ABA Therapy BCOTB

Does TRICARE cover Applied Behavior Analyst (ABA) Therapy?

ABA therapy is one of BCOTB’s TRICARE-covered programs. It is designed to accurately diagnose and properly treat behavioral, social, and pre-academic challenges that are associated with autism and other developmental disabilities.

BCOTB’s TRICARE ABA therapy is based on B.F Skinner’s Verbal Behavior and the current methods in the field of psychology. Our program is especially constructed for children ages 17 months to 10 years old, targeting a variety of challenges which include aggression and difficulties in communication and school-readiness.

TRICARE-approved ABA therapy may be prescribed for children with:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Downs Syndrome
  • Sensory Integration Disorders
  • Developmental Delay
  • Attention-Deficit Disorder
  • Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

How to Determine If Your Child Needs ABA Therapy from BCOTB?

Only a Board-certified Behavior Analyst can accurately determine if your child has special needs. Consider bringing your child to our facility for assessment if any of the following signs are apparent:

  • Difficulty in dealing with transitions
  • Inability to express his/herself effectively
  • Aggression or unresponsiveness
  • Being behind developmental milestones
  • Lack of social skills (e.g refuses to play with others)
