Assess Your Child Yourself:
Print off a list of developmental milestones that are appropriate for your child’s age. Check off the milestones they have met and review the ones they have not. Keep an eye out for any alarming symptoms that your child may display that are associated with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Schedule an Appointment with Your Child’s Pediatrician:
Contact your child’s pediatrician and schedule an appointment. Ask friends and family if there are any they recommend. Be sure to bring the developmental milestones checklist you completed to review with the doctor.
Research Early Intervention Programs:
Research has shown that early intervention significantly improves the quality of life for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Our program, the Toddler Achievement Program (TAP) , is specifically designed for toddlers and aid in developing language, social, and adaptive skills within the context of play.
Explore Community Resources:
There is an abundance of community resources available such as organizations, blogs, funding sources, and support groups. These can be found through a web search or on our webpage. Also, don’t be afraid to reach out to close family and friends for recommendations or emotional support.
Take a Deep Breath:
This can be a long, exhausting process. Be sure to take the time to relax and spend quality time with your family. It’s easy to get caught up in the process and become overwhelmed. Remember to stay focused and take the time to enjoy yourself and your family.
