We Can Help With The Process

Problem Behaviors

If you are concerned with your child’s behavior, BCOTB can help! One of our highly qualified Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) or Assistant Behavior Analysts (BCaBAs) can conduct a Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) to assist you in better understanding your child’s behavior.

Common examples of typical problem behavior include, but are not limited to:

  • Hitting

  • Difficulty waiting or accepting “no”

  • Kicking

  • Noncompliance

  • Biting

  • Repetitive behaviors

  • Scratching

  • Difficulty with transitioning

Whether your child has been diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder or simply engages in problem behavior, it can lead to a stressful and strained home environment.

What To Expect

Throughout this process, your analyst is always available to answer questions, work with other therapy providers, provide additional coaching, and modify recommendations as needed.

An FBA is a preferred method of examining problem behavior because it provides information regarding the events that take place immediately before and after a behavior. All behavior has a function or a reason for occurring. FBAs shed light on the environment and how it contributes to your child’s behavior.

At BCOTB, we don’t believe that children are bad or troublesome. We believe that disruptive behaviors are strengthened through consequences and that children are always learning new ways to interact with others. An FBA helps us identify what your child is learning when he or she behaves a certain way and how we can teach new, better ways of behaving.
