Below is a list of ten common signs that children on the spectrum may display:
- No warm and joyful expressions by 6 months
- Lack of imitating the movements and facial expression of others by 9 months
- No babbling by 6 months or loss of babbling or other social skills at any age
- Infrequently makes eye contact or avoids it altogether
- Does not respond to their name when called by 12 months
- Resistant to displays of affection such as cuddling, holding, or touching
- Inability to communicate their desires or wants effectively
- Prefers to play alone; engages in minimal social play or peer interactions
- Engages in repetitive behaviors that inhibit social growth such as hand flapping, lining up toys, rocking back and forth, etc.
- Has difficulty adjusting to changes in schedule, environment, or routine.
